What are stars?

Stars are enormous hot balls of burning gas. They give off lots of heat and light. The Sun is the nearest star to the Earth.  In our galaxy, the Milky Way, there are hundreds of billions of other stars.

What are planets?

Planets are large balls of rock or gas which fly around the Sun. There are 8 of these in the Solar System. Rocks which are not big enough to be planets are called dwarf planets.
